Japanese Cast Iron Pot
These beautifully crafted cast iron pots known as 'Tetsubin' are hand cast and enameled and comes with a stainless steel strainer for loose tea leaves making them a functional piece of art made by skilled artisans. Our Tesubins are enameled on the inside preventing oxidation of the iron. Cast iron has excellent heat retention that keeps the beverage hot for a longer period of time.
Tetsubins were originally crafted in mid 17th century in Japan. It was used for boiling water over an open flame and for drinking purposes. Tetsubin evolved through the 18th and 19th centuries, as tea drinking became more popular, brewing and serving the tea to friends and family Tetsubin became a status symbol rather than a functional kitchen item. The "Hobnail" design represents strength.
